CONGRATS TO LOUISE - DECEMBER 2006

BBC SPORTS AWARD FOR YOUNG DRAGON

A young sportswoman has been given a prestigious award at a regional competition.

Sixteen-year-old Louise Nelson of Quarrington, who is a member of Black Dragons Martial Arts Club of Sleaford, was named the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire 2006.

The award was presented to the St George's College pupil at The Deep in Hull and her mum Fay said it was a huge surprise that she won the award.

Mrs Nelson said: "She was sent an invitation to attend the award ceremony but she had no idea she had won. She was up against about four other people and is delighted to have been chosen. It is quite an achievement."

The sports award comes after Louise secured three world titles at the world kick boxing championships in Malta last month, despite it being her first championship as an adult.

Louise won in the Korean Patterns and the under 50kg semi contact event and claimed her third gold title in the under 55kg light continuous class.
