Team Black Dragon took a squad of 15 fighters to the
WUMA European Championships on November 26th & 27th

The competition was held over 2 days due to its size with countries from all over competing, Germany had over 50 fighters with Italy, France, Denmark, Greece and Poland close behind in numbers there was also some fighters from around the globe and as far as Malta, Nepal and Iran, all in all it amounted to being a very busy weekend.

The Dragons had a great 1st day with 6 juniors taking 9 trophies between them,

First up was current World Champion Louise Nelson, and now 2 times European Champion Louise took gold in Korean Patterns, gold in point, silver in self-defence and bronze in light contact.  Next up was Nathan Coleman winning all of his fights in points to take on the German champion, Nathan won making him European champion. Thomas Smart was up next with silver in the self-defence and 3rd in the points. Ben Smart and Rachel Muress both acquitted themselves very well but went out in the early rounds both to the eventual winners. Callum Thompson was next for team Black Dragon winning a 2nd in the points and a 3rd in the light contact.

Day 2 and the pressure was on for the adults, but not to be out done a haul of 12 trophies.   First up was Gary Cain, who showed great skills and speed but was unfortunate to go out in the early rounds Adam Clarke was next taking 2nd in the points and then going on to win the light contact,

Idris Williams took a 3rd place losing to the current Champion, Next up were the advanced Ladies with current world champion Rachel Coleman taking 2nd in points but then showing her determination to take 1st in the light contact.

Paul Mayfield took a 2nd in the points and with speed and stamina took the 1st place in light contact.

The big lads were up next with Mark Smart and Alwyn Harris doing battle in different sections Mark took a well deserved 3rd place and Alwyn just missed out on winning but took 2nd this just left the two coaches Pete Cook and Colin Muress, the two got of with a 2nd place in the self defence Colin was then called up for the 69kg full contact fighting Poland’s champion Colin had a great fight but lost out on a split decision, which left just one fight and that was Pete Cook in the open weight light contact Pete went through the first rounds comfortably and went to the finale taking on a fighter from Dagenham who had a big advantage being a lot bigger and taller however Cook moved around and took 1st place with ease.

Squad Manager Pete Cook said: " we had a great weekend all the squad had trained hard and deserved there wins 21 trophies at such a prestigious tournament is a fantastic boost for the club."
